How to Make Flyers

How to Make Flyers

Using flyers to market your business can be affordable and effective. Unlike many marketing strategies, flyers are also easy to create and distribute. But flyers only work if you know how to make flyers the right way. You don’t have to be a genius or have access to advanced technology to make great flyers, either. With some basic computer skills, some basic technology, and this how-to-guide, you can make it happen.

Using a Computer to Design Flyers

Making Advertising Flyers

The first step is coming up with a design for your flyers. Use a computer program for this. Some people use a computerized design program if they have one, but you can also use Microsoft Word to design flyers. Figuring out how large your font needs to be is key. You want to fill up the space while still having a flyer that is attractive. Toy around with the options when you’re using this program, taking advantage of the print previews to determine what looks best.

Coming Up with a Clear Message

Once you have figured out how big your font needs to be and what sort of format you are going to use, the next step is coming up with a clear message for the flyer. If you want to advertise an event, put the date and location of the event at the top in the biggest font. If someone is just glancing at your flyer, they need to get the most important information first. That way, if they are interested in what the flyer has to say, they can read on. If you fail to include the most important information in the most prominent spot, you run the risk of having them overlook this.

Feature your message in bold type at the top of the page too. If you’re advertising a lost dog, write “Lost Dog” in bold at the top of the page in a large font. Then include details on the dog lower on the flyer.

Deciding on Page Color

Some folks use white paper when making a flyer, but you might want to get more creative to make the flyer stand out. White flyers are bland, and if you are trying to make your flyer noticeable up against other flyers, you will need something a little bit different. The key here is making sure that your font color and your flyer color mesh well. If you are using a bright color like orange, you want to have a font that contrasts well so that people can see what you have to say. This is one of the most important things to measure when you make a flyer and it is something that too many people overlook.

Printing the Flyers

When you have finished coming up with the text for the flyer and you have decided upon the appropriate design specifications, your next step is printing out the flyers. If you are going to be doing many different flyers, it is best to do it at a library printer or someplace that is free if at all possible. The paper that you use and the ink that you will use can really add up in cost, so doing it at a public library can pay dividends. Likewise, you will need to choose the right kind of paper before printing. To keep costs down, using standard paper is best. If you are only printing a few flyers, then you can make them stand out by using glossy paper.

Ultimately, making flyers is something that is easy if you have some creativity and you are willing to put in the work. More and more companies are using this approach to augment their marketing efforts, so it is worth considering the merits. Whether your goals are business based or you are just looking to advertise something personally, with a few quick steps, you can have hundreds of flyers ready to go. After that, it is on you to hand them out or post them where people will surely see.
