How to Get Rid of Flies

There are many different kind of flies, but the most common is the house fly. It can a nuisance when having dinner or trying to take a nap and one pesty fly keeps landing on your food or buzzes around your face.

The most important fact here is that it is impossible to totally get rid of flies unless a person takes the consistent necessary steps in finding where they have their nests and to eliminate them, or they will continue to multiply and intrude in your food and space.

Here are a few suggestions to get you started:

Insect spray and the good ole’ fly swatter are the most common. Fly paper is also popular, and doesn’t take too much effort. Fly papers are usually covered with a sticky substance, and some you will find to be scented. These items can be found at your local store.

If you choose the spray, make sure any food or items are covered, as to not to contaminate them. Fly paper is usually hung where the flies seem to be the most. The garbage can area is probably the most common, but there is also pet areas, and the front and back door, to keep them from not coming in.

Back to the nest or breading ground. Try to locate where this may be, and a person can eliminate most or all the flies or maggots in that area. One fly can lay hundreds of eggs in a days time, than it turns into a maggot, and into a fly. There are many common places where these little nests can be. From around uncovered trash, pet areas, food that has been dropped and left. When you come across anything that is uncovered or needs clean up, it is best to do it right away, or more flies will form. Any litter boxes, uncovered garbage cans, dirty diapers, or dirty dishes in the sink.

Maggot Tips:

Regular bug sprays usually don’t get rid of maggots, In fact, they enjoy it. It will get rid of the parents though.

Pouring hot boiling water over the maggots is one way to get rid of them. Gather them and put them into a sealed bag and dispose of them. Also, putting them in cold weather will make them sleepy, and they won‘t wake up. Make sure the bag is completely sealed.

Fly Tips:

Follow instructions on any bug spray or chemical. If it is for outdoor use, don’t use it in your home.

Any food crumbs, soiled dishes, and pet area need to be clean and sanitized.

If you have any food uncovered and has been exposed to flies, throw the food away so there is no spread of disease. The same with the pet area.

If Interested: Fly Paper that is Homemade

Get some old paper trash bags, cut them into strips. As many as you like, and the size should be a few inches wide, to 6-8 inches long. Put a hole at the top in order to put a string through. Mix together the ingredients and soak the paper. You may want to soak overnight and then let drain before hanging.

¼ cup of regular white sugar/or it could be brown sugar
¼ cup of maple syrup or corn syrup

Once again, make sure the directions on any chemical substance is followed, and they are in a safe place away from children and pets. These pesty flies can be eliminated with some effort and persistence.
