Most new webmasters aren’t quite sure how to use Google Adwords, or any other program to get the word out about their sites and more to make a little money from them in the bargain. Using Google Adwords to build your traffic and help your site to grow is an easy and affordable method if you use it correctly.
Depending on some of the variables that enter into play, Adwords can also be extremely cost-effective for smaller sites as well as for larger ones.
What Adwords by Google actually does is offer pay per click advertising on sites that Google runs as well as a wide and diverse network of other sites that contract with Google to place those advertisements. Most of us have seen the small blocl of ads on the sidebar or the top part of a website.
Those ads are put there by different sites who are advertising through Google. Google places their ads on the various sites that they fit best with. You will also see Google advertising on the search engine page and even on many major non-profit sites.
How the system works is:
- The advertiser writes their own smal text advertisement and a link to their site is included in that ad.
- The ads run on websites that have contracted with Google to permit Google Adsense on their website in return for payment.
- The website which hosts the ad is paid for the clickthrough and purchase of goods from the advertisers website.
Using Google Adwords Effectively – Adword Keywords
Using Google Adwords effectively requires that you understand how to use the tools available to you. The keywords that the advertiser uses is what will decide where the ad will be found and how it is served up when a Google search takes place. Your selected keywords make the difference not only in what you pay, but in how well the advertising that you write will work for you.
How it Works
- You select some keywords that you think fit. They should be very much in tune with the product or service that you are promoting.
- You input those keywords into the Adwords Search tool.
- Google spits out additional keywords that they think fits your targeted area.
- You have the option of selecting one, or many keywords. Try to make them relevant, but not overly competitive to keep your costs down at first.
- Google places your ads. Where they are found will depend on what is called the score of the word. The score is arrived at by how well the ad meshes with the content on the site that will serve it. Other aspects of the score involve how well the ad has done if it were used prior to now, and the kind of site that the ad links back to, or the advertisers site.
The Price You Pay
Of course, we know that all Adwords are not created equal. The prices fluctuate from day to day, depending on several factors, not the least of which are how many people are using that keyword. Each keyword is assigned a cost per click.
Your cost will differ from day to day for the ads that you serve up. Your account is prepaid, with so much money in it. You are charged for Adwords on a “per-click” basis.
This means that you will pay a given price for each time that your advertisement is clicked. That holds true even if your click does not promote a sale in the end. The more competitive or popular that the keyword you choose is, the higher the price per click is going to be for that keyword.
To Get Started With Adwords
To start using Google Adwords you simply need to sign up to the program through Google. You have a minimum amount per month that you must pay and your costs are deducted from your Adwords account to cover the clicks you have.
Depending on the kind of keywords that you select you can still get a great return in traffic from Google Adwords while keeping your costs very low. Some keywords are as low as just a couple pennies per click. You are also in full control of your advertising campaign and may choose to shut it down for a few days and then restart it as you see fit.
Choose your keywords to be relevant but not overly high in competition and you can get great advertising, and a lot of new traffic to your site for a very reasonable cost.
