Netflix plans let you get movie rentals through the mail, instead of having to search through a small number of DVDs at your local movie rental place. Netflix never has late fees, so getting hammered by late fees isn’t the worry it was in the past. In all, there are 8 unlimited Netflix plans and 1 Netflix limited plan that any DVD movie fans can sign up for.
I’ve included a list of Netflix rental plans, so you can find the one that best suits your movie-watching needs.
Netflix Unlimited Plans
1 DVD Out at a Time – $8.99 per month
2 DVDs at a Time – $13.99
3 DVDs at a Time – $16.99
4 DVDs at a Time – $23.99
5 DVDs at a Time – $29.99
6 DVDs at a Time – $35.99
7 DVDs at a Time – $41.99
8 DVDs at a Time – $47.99
Note that the “Netflix Unlimited Plans” allow unlimited video streaming throughout the month, too. Read below for more details on Netflix Video Streaming.
Netflix Limited Plan
1 DVD Out at a Time – $4.99
On the limited plan, you are limited to two DVDs rentals per month. This is for those customers who rent movies only occasionally. The convenience and pricing are still competitive with local movie rental places, but unless you only watch DVDs on special occasions, I would suggest spending the extra $4 a month for the 1 DVD unlimited plan.
The Netflix Limited Plan also allows 2 hours of streaming to your personal computer per month. Pretty much, you’ll be able to watch one extra movie, or one tv disc, per month. Never choose a movie longer than 2 hours, though, because that would be frustrating.
Netflix Corporate Information
In case you want to know the background on Netflix, here’s what you need to know.
Netflix has over 12 million costumers and 2,500 employees. Netflix has over 50 distribution centers nationwide, so that 97% of Netflix’s subscribers live within one day’s shipping of a Netflix distribution center. When you mail a Netflix movie back to the company, the postal service sends that movie to the nearest distribution center.
As soon as the movie is scanned by the U.S. Postal Service, Netflix receives confirmation and sends the next movie in your queue. In my case, I put a Netflix movie in the mail, and expect a replacement movie two days from the mail drop. Everyone else I know who uses Netflix has the same quick return.
Occasionally, you’ll have some movie that’s checked out at a Netflix distribution center. If so, Netflix ships that title from another center. Since this will take an extra day or two to arrive, Netflix sends you the next title in your queue, to make sure you aren’t doing without movies.
What is a Netflix Queue?
I’ve mentioned the term “queue” twice now. Every member of Netflix has their own queue, which is their movie wish list. As you browse Netflix, you’ll find movies you want to watch. Click on “Add to Queue” or “Save”, and the movie goes onto your list. (Save is for those films that haven’t released yet.)
Therefore, your queue is a ranked list of movies you want Netflix to send you. Whatever is #1 on your queue is the movie you most want to see next. If the movie is designated “Now”, that’s the next movie that will ship to you. If the movie is designated “Short Wait”, “Long Wait” or “Very Long Wait”, then you’ll receive the next highest-ranked “Now” on your movie list.
How Can Netflix Get Away with No Late Fees?
“No late fees” is absolutely true at Netflix. when a movie comes to you, you can keep that movie out for as long as you like. If you don’t have a chance to see the movie for several days, but you want to see the movie, just keep it until you can watch it.
The catch, of course, is that you have a Netflix plan. If you have a plan for 1-movie rental at a time, that’s the only movie you’ll be receiving, until you return it. Only when you ship back the movie you have at the house, will you be able to receive a new movie. You can spend you entire month’s subscription on one movie, if you never send the movie back.
If you have a 3-movie rental at a time plan, that movie you’re keeping is going to count as one of those movies, and so on. You get your money’s worth by returning your movies in a timely fashion, but it’s ultimately up to you.
Watching Netflix Movies Online – Netflix Video Streaming
So many Netflix movies can be watched online, as streaming videos. These usually aren’t the new releases, but if you have a computer with a good monitor and fast upload speeds, and you have a good chair in your computer room, you’ll be able to enjoy many Netflix movies without using the U.S. Postal Service. The only plan that limits the amount of time you stream videos is the limited plan, which no one I know uses.
People with the right connection can stream Netflix videos to their tv. It won’t be too many years, before the Netflix movie rental plan is going to be down entirely with downloads, I’m guessing.
But that’s for another year. You now have all the information you need on Netflix plans, so select the one that works best for you, and start enjoying Netflix in your home.
